POLOKWANE – The two female police reservist constables arrested in last week for corruption appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 20 April.
Hawks Spokesperson, Matimba Maluleke says the pair were released on R500 bail each and their case was postponed to 25 May for further investigation.
POLOKWANE – The case against the two female police reservist constables arrested for corruption has been postponed, says the police.
The duo who were arrested on Tuesday immediately after receiving bribe money from a undercover cop, appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court yesterday and were remanded in custody, said Hawks Spokesperson, Matimba Maluleke.
They will reappear before the court on 21 April for a formal bail hearing.
POLOKWANE – The Hawk’s Serious Corruption Unit arrested two female police reservist constables for corruption in the city’s central business district (CBD) on Tuesday.
According to Hawks Spokesperson, Matimba Maluleke, the officers are currently stationed at the Polokwane Police Station.
“It is alleged that the duo, aged 32 and 40-years-old, arrested an illegal immigrant last week Friday and demanded R2000 bribe for her freedom and confiscated her personnel belongings. The victim immediately contacted her husband who deposited R400 through e-wallet and she was released on agreement that she would settle the R1 600 balance. Upon the balance they would return her cellphone and other personal belongings which were confiscated,” explained Maluleke.
The matter was reported to the Hawks who acted swiftly and arrested the two on duty after they received the outstanding balance of R1 600 from an undercover cop.
They are expected to appear in Polokwane Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 12 April 2017.
