POLOKWANE – These are the words of wisdom of Precious Mooka (23), a self-taught makeup artist, beautician, singer, and fashion designer.
This mother and talented woman, who hails from Moletji Ga-Manamela, uses her God-given talent to do makeup and nails for weddings, graduations, matric dances, or any special occasion. She also does house calls.
“I offer both makeup and manicures for weddings, which I believe makes it more convenient and less confusing for the bride and bridesmaids to have just one person responsible for this instead of several people as your wedding day is usually quite busy as well,” she explained.
Aside from her career as a beautician, Precious enjoys singing and sketching dresses, all while spending as much time as possible with her son.
“I did not attend a beauty school to learn my skills, it is just something I have a natural knack for, it is my God-given talent. I am, however, studying information technology at the Capricorn TVET College. Although I have a busy schedule, I always do my best to spend most of my time with my son.”
Precious gave her friend, Portia Morifi, a special makeover for her birthday after which they went out to celebrate the occasion. “I feel so special and honoured because I have a best friend who specialises in almost everything beauty related,” Portia said.
Precious discovered her passion for makeup at the age of 10 and she credits her inspiration and motivation to gospel singer, Mahalia Buchanan.
“I truly love the way her makeup is done. She’s also a beautiful and talented singer. She’s my role model in both singing and makeup,” Precious said.
Her aim is to one day be recognised by big companies for her natural talent and become part of the makeup team for either TV or modelling agencies. Precious believes without motivation, passion you will not excel or get the results you want in life.
