Leeto’s road closures and alternative routes

As construction on the Polokwane Integrated Rapid Transport System begins, avoid traffic jams with these alternative routes.

POLOKWANE – As from 5 April 2017, the City of Polokwane will be undertaking road improvements for the proposed Polokwane Integrated Rapid Transport System (PIRPTS).

Mantlako Sebaka, a Polokwane Municipality Stakeholder Relations and Communications Officer, says the closures are being done simultaneously to ensure a seamless project and minimize future disruptions to motorists, businesses and pedestrians in the area.

There is expected to be some disruption to normal traffic as lanes will be diverted and or narrowed during this period. The construction is expected to take 90 days and will be mostly conducted during working hours of the day.

Streets in CBD will only be partially closed at all times (half widths of the street at a time).

“The public and businesses are also warned to heed all safety requirements during this period and to not use the affected areas for parking while works are in progress,” Sebaka said.

Sebaka added that waste collection will proceed as scheduled and where disruptions are experienced, residents are urged to be patient as the construction may require some changes in routine collections.

“Businesses affected by these road closures are appealed to for patience in making the streets better equipped for trade and pedestrian use.”

All updates will be posted on the City of Polokwane’s website and the Leeto la Polokwane website (www.leetolapolokwane.co.za) and the Facebook and Twitter pages.

“Thank you for understanding while we work to improve the City of Polokwane’s transport infrastructure,” Sebaka concluded.
