David shares his passions

Hair styling and catering are two of David Ackerman's biggest passions.

POLOKWANE – For the past 20 years he has been making food at his mother’s restaurant and styling hair for the same number of years, something he said he will not change for the world.

His mother was his inspiration to venture into making food and she is his role model because she likes pushing boundaries and taking things and making a success of them.

“The first dish I ever made for her was Polynesian Chicken and I am pretty sure it tasted aweful. She did say it was good, but she is my mother after all,” he joked.

David is responsible for the Sunday carvery at the family restaurant and he attributed his ability to making food which is suitable for different tastes to his years of food making experience. “If we didn’t each have our own tastes and opinions, the world would be a dull and uninteresting place,” he explained.

As for styling hair and tips for people who want the same look days after leaving the salon, he advised to stay as natural as possible.

David Ackerman says his love for hair styling has been ongoing for 20 years

“You know your hair and you know what it does, stay true to that and keeping your hair beautiful will be a breeze. The best is to just be yourself and choose your hairstyle the same way.” Choosing a career in hairstyling or food is something he said can allow you to travel the world. “There is just one rule that I believe in and that is to enjoy what you do and you will succeed,” he said.

Something, he added, not many people know about him is that he loves marathon running and is an overall fun loving guy.

He describes himself as a proud gay uncle who is highly ambitious and a hard worker who can face any challenge when he puts his mind to it.
