Baobab Gardens: a new home for businesses in Polokwane

The proposed names will be advertised for 28 days in local newspapers for public comment and input and the names will then be sent to ward committees for comment.

POLOKWANE – The Geographic Names Committee resolved that the proposed name for Polokwane Extension 124, where the new ‘Motor City’ will be situated near Thornhill, will be ‘Baobab Gardens’.

The decision was announced at a recent council meeting. The name was chosen to promote the social and economic viability of the proposed botanical garden envisaged on the remainder of the Krugersburg farm (Registration No. 993) to promote the conservation of the endangered Clivicola plant species and other indigenous plants in the province.

It has also been proposed that the names of the streets be in line with the township theme and the names of the streets proposed were Clivicola, Buffalo Thorn, Aloe Vera and Marlothii streets.

Alternative names have also been provided, should the names already be in existence, such as Marula, Bushwillow, Knob Thorn or Orchid Streets.

The Surveyor-General must be notified of the proposed names and numbers and the geo-informatics will capture the street names and numbers accordingly for municipal billing purposes.
