#BlackMonday causes waves on social media

Messages have circulated on social media platforms including Whatsapp and Twitter calling for all to wear all black to protest Zuma's cabinet reshuffle.

POLOKWANE – Following President Jacob Zuma’s cabinet reshuffle last week, which surprised the entire country, civil society groups have planned a mass gathering in Pretoria today (3 April) and have asked people from all walks of life to wear all black in support.

The protest comes after President Jacob Zuma’s decision to fire former finance minister Pravin Gordhan and deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas.

On a website which was set up recently, called Black Monday, it encourages South Africans to “unite behind the values enshrined in our Constitution”.

It also states that #Blackmonday was created by ordinary concerned citizens of South Africa.

“We wish to present a united voice for all South Africans to stand behind. We do not share any political affiliation,” it says.
