Wisdom for the ages

Review spoke to residents of Martha Hofmeyr Old Age Home about what advise they would give to today’s younger people.

POLOKWANE – It is believed that with age comes wisdom.

With today’s fast paced lifestyle and technological age, the following residents from Martha Hofmeyr had the following advice to give to the younger generation:

Englinah Modipa (72) says that children should make sure that their parents are looked after properly in their old age.

Violet Phala (95) says that the youth should remember their elders and visit them often.

Kevin Smith (66) says that you have to make sure that you accept the Lord as early as possible. “Remember the Lord in your youth and he will be with you forever. Don’t say you will do it later, as later may be too late.”

Delicia Phillips (75) says her advice would be to start saving for one’s pension when you start working. “Open a pension fund, you won’t regret it,” she says.

Hans le Grange (87) says young people should listen to their elders. “Do good to others and love them more than you love yourself.”

Joey Smith (70) says young people should live an active lifestyle by participating in sport and other physical activities.

Pat Matthews (75) had the following to say: “Don’t do drugs, learn what is right and what is wrong, respect others and go visit your parents. And give your heart to God.”

What have your elders told you that has changed the way you live your life?
