Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke says the taxi was searched at Beitbridge Border Post after the driver failed to declare four suspected gas cylinder bottles he was carrying in his trailer to SARS officials.

Maluleke says preliminary investigations indicated that two of the four bottles were ground at the bottom and weighed more than expected. The two gas bottles were opened and black and white substances were found inside.

“At the moment it is not known what these substances are but they will be sent to the laboratory for  forensic examination. The driver of the Toyota Quantum fled the scene and no one has been arrested at the moment. Investigations are continuing,” he says
