POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Police were forced to leave the Onder Street taxi rank after an angry mob earlier assaulted suspects they believed to be selling and buying nyaope in the area.

It is believed that taxi drivers attacked people who they call nyaope boys yesterday (Tuesday).

“We are tired of the useless police not helping us clean the streets and taxi ranks, we are now cleaning them ourselves,” one woman  told Review.

She said that there will be mob justice because the law does nothing.

A Review journalist also came under attack after she attempted to speak to people at the taxi rank.

[WARNING STRONG LANGUAGE]

“It is scary how fast something like this happens. One moment you are talking to someone and the next moment  angry people surround you, hitting and shouting at you to leave.. They are angry and they want to do something about it, anyone who stands in their way will be dealt with,” the journalist explained.

According to Police Spokesperson WO Lesiba Ramoshaba the police are monitoring the area, and will issue a press release at a later stage.
