Driver flees scene of fatal vehicle crash in Limpopo

A five-month-old baby was killed instantly when the vehicles crashed near Lebowakgomo

LIMPOPO – The Police in Magatle outside Lebowakgomo have launched a manhunt for the driver of a bakkie who fled the scene of an accident which claimed the lives of four people including that of a five-month-old baby earlier today (Wednesday).

The three-vehicle accident occurred at around 14:30 along the Ga-Ntamatise and Magatle Sharp Curve road, said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“The preliminary investigations have revealed that the first vehicle, which was towing the trailer, was stopped in the middle of the road waiting for stray animals to cross when the second vehicle, a Nissan 1400 bakkie which was travelling at a high speed, crashed into the trailer and the third vehicle.”

He added that four passengers including a five-month-old baby from the Nissan 1400 were killed and another two passengers from the same bakkie sustained critical injuries and were transported to Zebediela Hospital for medical treatment.

The drivers from the other two vehicles were not injured.

“The driver which fled the scene has been identified and police are investigating a case of culpable homicide,” concluded Ngoepe.
