Polokwane traffic cop in court for corruption

A 48-year-old female traffic official was sentenced in a local court yesterday

POLOKWANE – A 48-year-old female traffic official was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by Seshego Regional Court yesterday (Friday) for corruption.

According to a statement issued by Hawks Spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, Mahlodi Rahab Lamola demanded money from the complainant who collided with her in an accident. “Lamola was driving a marked Polokwane Municipal Traffic car at the time,” he said.

Maluleke added: “The complainant gave her one R1 000 on the spot but the officer demanded more and threatened to lock her up. The matter was reported to the Hawks and a trap was set. Lamola was arrested immediately after receiving R4 700 from the complainant.”

“The accused was granted bail by Seshego Magistrate Court during her trial.”

Yesterday (Friday) she was convicted and fined R10 000 or 12 month imprisonment suspended for five years by the same court, he concluded.

We encourage community members to report all forms of corruption to the police.
