Motor vehicle theft syndicate cracked in Polokwane

Suspected stolen vehicles and registration documents were recovered during the police operation

POLOKWANE – A 20-year-old suspect believed to be part of a vehicle theft syndicate was arrested this morning (Saturday).

The Provincial Tracking Team had a major breakthrough after members followed a suspected stolen vehicle which led them to a motor vehicle theft syndicate operating from Ivydale Plots, said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“A number of suspected stolen motor vehicles were also recovered at the said plot. These included a Toyota Yaris, Nissan Sentra, Mazda 3 and a Ford Courier LDV,” he added.

“The preliminary investigations have revealed that all these vehicles were registered in Botswana and their chassis numbers were grinded off. The police also found a lot of registration documents from Botswana and Zimbabwe as well as Botswana license discs.”

The suspect will appear before Polokwane Magistrate Court on Monday on a charge of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.

Police investigations in terms of determining the origins of these vehicles continue.
