Community nabs ‘Nyaope boys’

Concerned residents approached EFF Ward 13 Councillor, Oupa Ramaphoko, to assist them with the matter

POLOKWANE – Residents of Seshego Zone 1 have joined forces with the police and EFF to oust the ‘nyaope boys’ in their community.

The community is fed up with these ‘nyaope boys’ who spend their days smoking the drug and breaking into homes to sustain their habit and have decided to do something about these criminal elements.

To address this, concerned residents approached the EFF Ward 13 Councillor, Oupa Ramaphoko, to assist them with the matter and together with the police they set out to apprehend these ‘nayope boys’.

Ramaphoko said the community make use of whistles to notify others whenever they see criminal activity to enable everyone to react swiftly whenever a crime is committed.

“One of the residents noticed someone break into her neighbour’s house and blew her whistle to notify the community who rushed to the scene to apprehend the suspect while notifying the police to arrest the person,” he explained.

After the suspect was arrested, the community along with the Juju Valley team, Ramaphoko, and police officers developed a strategy to confront and stop these criminals where they hide out.

“We wanted to catch these nyaope boys red handed so we went to the abandoned buildings known to be their hideouts. Although the community was aware of these places, they were too scared to approach them on their own. Our investigation bore fruit and we managed to arrest eight suspects and found several concerning items in their hideouts such as knives and other home made weapons suspected of being used in robberies. As the EFF we aim to help the community wherever possible so we urge them to report matters such as these so we can assist them in making the community safe for everyone,” Ramaphoka said.
