Modimolle Home Affairs official in court for corruption

The Hawks Limpopo Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested a 32-year-old Modimolle Home Affairs official for corruption.

LIMPOPO – According to a  statement issued by Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke, the suspect allegedly confiscated the passport of a foreign national during a joint operation between the SAPS‚ SARS and Home Affairs in Modimolle in January and then demanded R3 000 from the complainant in order to get his passport back.

Maluleke added that the matter was reported to the Hawks and a trap was set whereby the suspect was arrested after he received the money he had demanded.

“The suspect appeared before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Tuesday) and his case was postponed to 1 March for a formal bail application,” said Maluleke.

He has been remanded in custody, Maluleke concluded.
