Mokopane police crack ‘stock theft syndicate’

Two man believed to be part of a stock theft syndicate were arrested for the possession of suspected stolen live stock over the weekend, says the police.

MOKOPANE – According to a statement issued by police spokesperson, Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the police received a tip-off of two men on their way to sell alleged stolen livestock, 10 cows, at an auction at the Mokopane Vleissentraal on Friday at around 11:00.

“On arrival members of the Provincial and Mokopane Stock Theft unit indeed found the cows being transported with two bakkies and trailers.”

The two men aged 30 and 31-years-old were arrested and cattle to the value of R100 000 recovered, added Ngoepe.

The men from Seshego appeared before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court today (Monday) and their cases were postponed to 27 February for a formal bail application.

The suspects remain in custody. Police  investigations continue.
