Help Liana beat cancer
Unfortunately, medical costs are difficult for her to cover and she requires financial assistance to get her through this difficult time.
POLOKWANE – Liana Malan (43) is fighting hard and fighting bravely against cancer, but she will need the help of the community to continue and to win her fight.
The loving mother with a big heart is ready to fight for her family, friends and herself.
Liana was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer stage four and was told in September 2015 that it had spread to her liver and glands.
In October she had surgery to remove part of her colon and six weeks later she started with 12 chemotherapy sessions.
Unfortunately, after her third session, it emerged that she had an allergic reaction towards the treatment which influenced her breathing.
When she had completed the 12 sessions and went for her first follow-up appointment, she received the devastating news that her cancer-score had increased and further chemotherapy sessions were required.
“Because of my allergic reactions towards the treatment, I had to search for an alternative treatment and found a specialist in Johannesburg who was able to give me the correct required treatment.”
She explained that the specialist’s treatment is based on making the body as physically strong as possible to fight the cancer, and he currently uses medication which makes the body stronger, instead of chemotherapy which makes the body weaker.
Her costs per month for her treatment include R1 200 per consultation (toll gates and fuel excluded), R4 500 for intravenous fluid (drip) and approximately R2 600 for medication.
Unfortunately, these costs are difficult for her to cover and she requires financial assistance to get her through this difficult time. “I need the help of the community and I would greatly appreciate any donations,” she said.
