Health MEC shares love and advice on Valentine’s

MEC for Health, Phopi Ramathuba, says Valentine's is a day for all, but warns the youth to be vigilant and safe

POLOKWANE – MEC for Health, Phopi Ramathuba, says Valentine’s Day is a special day to show love which she believes should not be restricted to our partners, but should be shared with the whole family and society at large.

She says young people should be vigilant during this period and guard against date rape drugs. Adding that social media apps such as Facebook has gotten many young girls into trouble because it allows them to attract the wrong type of people into their lives. She therefore asks them to be wary of their actions.

“This is not the time to break your virginity by having sex, wait until the right time and have a special person to share this special moment, hence why there is a Valentine’s Day. To celebrate it with our life partners, not to play around with different people or the so called ‘blesses’,” she says.

In her message, Ramathuba emphasises health and safety. “We have max condoms which are freely available at our facilities to protect yourself from HIV & Aids, STIs and unwanted pregnancy”.

She wishes everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day and says to enjoy the day responsibly.
