Two suspects in custody following murder of Lephalale farmer (57)

Two suspects have been taken in for questioning following the murder of a 57-year-old man on a Lephalale farm today (Monday), says the police.

LIMPOPO – According to preliminary information an unknown number of suspects broke into the house of the deceased on the farm Fourieskloof outside Lephalale, according to Spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

“They allegedly assaulted Hendrik Pieterson with a heavy object on the head. They then fled the scene in Pieterson’s vehicle, a white Isuzu bakkie with registration BYZ 077 L,” said Mojapelo.

He added that several goods were taken from the house, including a safe. “It is not yet clear exactly what the safe contained.”

“Pietersons’ son-in-law discovered the injured Pieterson this morning and rushed him to hospital. They met the ambulance on the road but he passed away before reaching the hospital,” he said.

Swift police action led to the arrest of the two suspects in the Shongwane area after some of the stolen items were found in their possession. The bakkie has not been recovered yet.

Investigations continue and more arrests are expected.
