LIMPOPO -The two suspects arrested for allegedly terrorising University of Limpopo students staying outside campus in Mankweng appeared before the Mankweng Magistrates Court today (Monday) on several charges.

These charges included possession of suspected stolen property, illegal firearm possession, rape, house breaking and ammunition.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the two suspects, Calvin Mamabolo and Johanes Mashudu Ramano were both remanded in custody.

“The two suspects will next appear in court on 3 March pending further investigations,” he said.

Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly terrorising University of Limpopo students staying outside campus in Mankweng.

According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the two suspects‚ both aged 37, are accused of raping and robbing victims and were arrested this weekend during a crime-intelligence operation.

“These crimes agitated the Mankweng community and the students who‚ on two occasions marched to the local police station to hand in the memorandum‚ demanding the arrest of the culprits,” Mojapelo said.

Mojapelo said that last Thursday, a 20-year-old student was attacked in her room‚ raped and robbed of a laptop and cell phone.

In another incident that took place in September last year‚ one of the suspects allegedly forced their way into a room where he found the student with her boyfriend. Mojapelo says he then robbed them at gunpoint and dragged the female student out and raped her after shooting her boyfriend.

“During the arrest‚ police seized a 9mm pistol‚ four rounds of ammunition‚ five laptops and six cellphones and the suspects are being linked to a number of cases in the area including rape‚ attempted murder and house robbery,” said Mojapelo.

They will appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 6 February, on charges of possession of suspected stolen property‚ an illegal firearm and ammunition.
