House Orvis takes lead at SLC athletics meet

SLC learners gave it their all on the field as the school hosted their annual inter-house athletics on Thursday.

POLOKWANE – Stanford Lake College (SLC) athletes showcased their skills both on the track and field, during their annual inter-house athletics meeting that was held at the school last Thursday.

They were fortunate to be blessed with a beautiful sunny day which allowed athletes to produce outstanding results and the SLC athletes managed to set 10 new records.

Team Orvis won the spirit trophy after beating team Fenwick on the last relay of the day to win the athletics meeting.

Justyn Trueman claimed a Vavasour Cup for boys open 1 500 m and Cheerio Trust trophy for best senior middle distance runner.

Team Orvis was rewarded with the McGaffin Trust Relay trophy after being announced as the winning house and the team with the best spirit.

Luke Burns and Normane Mnisi scooped a Kenney trophy as the best in senior boys discus and senior girls discus respectively.

Rofhiwa Nevhutalu was named the Junior Victor Ludorum and claimed the Loubser trophy while Lia Revelas proved her strength in the girls’ category and was named the Junior Victrix Ludorum and also received the Loubser trophy.

Mfumo Mongwe made his opponents eat dust as he was awarded the Loubser Trophy and was named the Senior Victor and Mokgadi Mangena scooped Senior Victrix Ludorum and the Loubser trophy.

Here are the SLC inter-high records that were set:

• Robin Lacey (girls u/16) – sprint.

• Jarred Schoeman (boys u/16) – javelin throw.

• Lia Revelas (girls u/15) – 100 m hurdles.

• Mokgadi Mangena (girls u/16) – 100 m hurdles and high jump.

• Rofhiwa Nevhutalu (boys u/15) – 100 m hurdles.

• Anja Maree (girls u/14) – sprint and discus throw.

• Danica Altenroxel (girls u/15) – javelin throw.
