Man killed on farm near Bela Bela

The deceased's wife alerted her husband about the intruders and proceeded to lock herself in the bathroom

BELA BELA – Members of the K9-unit, Crime Prevention and the local CPF are searching for three suspects allegedly responsible for the death of a 62-year-old man at his smallholding this (Friday) morning.

According to preliminary information, Daniel Killian Jacobs died due to a gunshot wound in the early hours of this morning, said Spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

“Jacobs and his wife, Emmerentia live alone on their small holding in the Leeupoort Holiday Reserve outside Rooiberg. Emmerentia woke up at approximately 03:00 this morning and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. She noticed three unknown suspects outside, who through a brick through a window and gained entry to the home. Emmerentia alerted her husband about the intruders and proceeded to lock herself in the bathroom from where she summoned help from neighbours with her cellphone,” explained Mojapelo.

When a neighbour arrived at the scene, they found Jacobs, dead in the couple’s bedroom with a gunshot wound to his upper-left chest. “The suspects fled on foot after taking a handbag belonging to Emmerentia,” he said.

No arrests have been made and investigations continue. Anyone with information is requested to contact the nearest police station, concluded Mojapelo.
