New College Head at PEPPS is raring to go

After a tenure of just three years in Polokwane almost seven years ago, Roberts says she is exciting about her new role.

POLOKWANE – Recently appointed College Head at PEPPS, Annabel Roberts, is no stranger to the city and has almost two decades of experience in the education field which she believes will serve her well in her new role.

Family commitments lured Roberts and her husband, Mark, back to Johannesburg. The post left vacant by Lee Melville, her predecessor at PEPPS, has now afforded her the opportunity to return to Polokwane.

“I lived my whole life in Johannesburg. Because of my involvement as an educator in the independent school’s sector for the past 18 years, and being a teacher at Mitchell House before, PEPPS is no stranger to me,” she says.

“PEPPS, Polokwane, the serenity of this city’s surrounding nature reserves, such as having a game reserve within the borders of the city, and the friendly people is where I and my family wanted to be. I am happy for the opportunity, and knowing PEPPS is an excellent school to be associated with, am really excited, yet privileged to be here.”

The role of headmaster is a new challenge for her as this is her first appointment to this position. She has primarily taught physical science and is a qualified maths teacher as well.

“I don’t want to sound like a hero, to say I want to teach as well. My objective for now is to rather observe and learn as much as I can about the culture of PEPPS. PEPPS has an outstanding academic record and I would like to continue to build on this foundation.”

Roberts says she is ecstatic to work with a team of personnel which she regards as highly competent, and she describes the strategy for the learners and personnel of PEPPS for this year:

“To make every second count, do your best, expect nothing but the best and invest the best in everything you do, whether academically or on the sports field.”

She brings with her a wealth of experience, having been the head of science at Mitchell House, St Stithians Girls College and St Davids Marist Inanda as well as the faculty head of science at Redhill High School in Morningside, Johannesburg.

Her last position before moving back to Polokwane with husband Mark, and twins Matthew and Bradley, was head of science at Reddam House Waterfall.

Roberts is well respected within the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and is currently the IEB Physical Science Conference Coordinator, the IEB Physical Science Regional Moderator as well as the IEB Physical Science National Moderator of School Based Assessment.

She is also capable on the sports fields having coached hockey, tennis and athletics as well as assisting in drama, public speaking and debating, a true all-rounder.
