Transport Department warns of job scam

"We must ensure that they are arrested and put behind bars."

THE Department of Transport in Limpopo has learnt with regret of the scam circulating enticing prospective traffic officers job-seekers to pay money ranging from between R50 000 and R80 000 in exchange for an employment opportunity.

Limpopo Traffic Department Spokesperson, Joshua Kwapa, said in a media statement: “In November 2016, the Department of Transport advertised 50 learnership opportunities for learner traffic officers for the period of three years.

“The closing date for the applications was on 20 January.

“The advert stated very clearly, that the Department of Transport is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer with clear employment equity targets. There was no mention of payment as a condition to guaranteed employment”.

He further said that they would like to advise prospective learners that they must not fall into this criminal trap.

They encourage the community to report such people to the National Anti-Corruption hotline at 080 070 1701 or the Department of Transport Anti-Fraud and Corruption at 072 697 7369 or 072 621 9711.

People are also further encouraged to call their nearest police station and report these criminal activities.

“We must ensure that they are arrested and put behind bars,” Kwapa concluded.
