Dagga plantation continues to flourish

The dagga plantation, at the intersection of the road from Marble Hall into the Elandskraal area, was uprooted by the police last year.

LIMPOPO – About a year ago, concerned residents approached police with regard to a dagga plantation growing mere meters from the Marble Hall Police Station.

The dagga plantation, at the intersection of the road from Marble Hall into the Elandskraal area, was uprooted by the police last year.

However, during CV’s visit to the intersection last Wednesday, the plants were flourishing again with police seemingly not giving heed or noticing.

When police cleaned out the plantation last year, a homeless man who was living in the veld, was also removed because he became aggressive.

Police arranged with his family to come and collect him and take him home.

The man has returned and sleeps under the fast growing plants which are obscured by some of his belongings.

“We don’t know where the man was because he disappeared last year for some time.

“Police uprooted the plantation last year and moved him away from the spot.

“It looks like the plantation belongs to him as he does not allow anyone near the area. We are unsure if police simply cannot see the plants or if they are just reluctant to do something about the matter.

“It is clear to anyone passing the area that these are dagga plants,” said a concerned community member who wished to stay anonymous.

Another person, who also did not want his name published, said they have not been able to establish for certain if the plants were dagga.

“I cannot get close enough to the area to be able to say for certain if it is dagga because the man who lives there fights people who come close to his belongings.

“He seems mentally ill and I have always wondered why his family does not come and take him home,” he said.
