Emergency numbers you should have on speed dial

Knowing how to act in an emergency and having the necessary emergency contacts on hand can mean the difference between life and death.

POLOKWANE – Even though it is advised that all citizens must know who to contact in case of any emergency, not everyone know the numbers or the services which to contact by heart.

Mankweng Police Spokesperson, Sgt Mosima Makgaba, gave some insight into what emergency numbers to use in which circumstances.

“The 112 number is a general number that people can call for any type of emergency, whether it be medical or otherwise. It makes it easier to know the emergency number by heart as it is a centralised number that you can call whether you want the police, ambulance or fire department. In order to get prompt assistance, you have to state the nature of your emergency, the area you are in, your address, and any additional information they may require when you call to report an emergency,” she explained.

Other numbers to call in case of an emergency:

• Fire Department – (015) 293 1111.

• Ambulance Services – 10177.

• Police Services – (015) 290 6577.

• Polokwane Police Station – (015) 290 6582.

• Pietersburg (Polokwane)/Mankweng Provincial Hospital: (015) 297 2604.
