Residents are advised to use alternative routes to avoid conflict

POLOKWANE – Residents are advised to avoid Excelsior and Hans van Rensburg street tomorrow (Thursday) as the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) members march to various departments to hand over a memorandum of grievances.

The march will start at the SABC Park at 10:00 and proceed to the Department of Education. The members will then proceed to the Department of Treasury and the Premier’s Office.

According to Sadtu provincial secretary, Matome Raphasha, they expect about 10 000 people and encouraged residents to use alternative routes to avoid conflict. He further said the memorandums contains issues ranging from text books to teachers not being paid since April last year.

Good Hope Primary in Westernburg today issued letters stating that the majority of educators are Sadtu members and as a result there will be no sufficient supervision tomorrow. Therefore requested parents and guardians to keep learners at home.
