Task team ‘smokes’ smuggler out in Ivy Park
The suspect was found with 1085 cartoons of illicit cigarettes to the value of R233,275.
POLOKWANE – A Provincial Task Team conducted an intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrest of a 39-year-old Zimbabwean national and confiscation of dozens of illegal cigarettes.
Police spokesperson, Captain Maano Sadike says a tip- off was received, yesterday, which led the team to a vehicle transporting illegal cigarettes in Polokwane and on arrival, the culprit tried to escape but the police gave chase until the suspect was cornered and apprehended at Ivy Park next to Sterkloop Nursery.
“The suspect was travelling in a gold Toyota Etios with Reg.No ND299-376 and there were 1085 cartoons of illicit cigarettes inside to the value of R233,275.”
Sadike says the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
