A strong woman at the helm of DOL

The Department of Labour (DOL)'s new Chief Director of Provincial Operations promises to make big changes and implement a zero tolerance approach

LIMPOPO – Johannah Machaba hails from Tzaneen in the Mopani district, matriculated from Bokgaga High School and pursued a bachelor of administration in industrial psychology at the University of Limpopo.

Along with this qualification, she also holds a master’s degree in development studies which she obtained in 2007.

She has always put education at the top of her priority list and is studying towards a master’s degree in public administration at the University of Limpopo.

“Some of my tasks as chief director of provincial operations include developing and managing the effective implementation of inspection and enforcement services, managing labour market information system services in the province, and developing and managing effective implementation of public employment services to name a few,” Machaba said.

Going over and above her calling, Machaba also served as a board member in the Disaster Relief Fund, Social Relief Fund, and State President Fund rendering assistance to persons, organisations and bodies who have suffered damages or loss as a result of disaster.

Community work is something that lies close to Machaba’s heart and she helps those in need wherever possible.

During her introductory speech to the provincial staff she indicated that her hard work comes second to none and births good results.

She encouraged the staff to always put their best foot forward when it comes to performance in order for the department to shine.

“I will bring a new management style to the table that has zero tolerance for staff who spend most of their time wasted around the city, stealing government time. Such people will be dealt with accordingly,” she explained.

Machaba believes the secret to success in the workplace is time management.

“Good time management allows you to accomplish more in a shorter period of time, which leads to more free time, and lets you take advantage of learning opportunities, lowers your stress, and helps you focus.

“Each benefit of time management improves another aspect of your life,” she concluded.
