John Hudson leaves a legacy of selflessness

'He was the most lively and kindest man I knew'

POLOKWANE – The vibrant and generous businessman, John Hudson (71), known for his involvement with the Rotary Club of Pietersburg and the Our Home old age home, lost his fight against cancer on Friday.

He was well known in the city as the chairperson of Our Home old age home and as a general friendly face with a warm and welcoming smile to many of the city’s residents.

“I cannot even remember when he became chairperson of Our Home,” his wife of 52 years, Sandy, fondly recalls. “Due to his deteriorating health, he resigned from the board last year.”

Three years ago, Hudson was diagnosed with cancer and his health had rapidly regressed.

“He was the most lively and kindest man I knew and he was liked by everyone who met him. He was definitely a man whose community had a special place in his heart,” his widow adds.

Hudson was not only part of the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100, but also the president of 41 Club International and president of the 41 Association of Southern Africa.

“He was extremely well respected throughout the world and loved by many. His caring attitude towards his fellow man and his dedication to the Round Table and 41 Club Associations is legendary. He was one of only two 41 Club International Presidents to come from South Africa. John we will all miss you, all your kindness and words of wisdom. We will remember all the great times we had together. Our deepest condolences go out to Sandy and his family,” says Bruce McKay, 41 Club International Vice President.

“John was a man who had a helping hand in the growth and development of the city and its community. He will be sorely missed by the Rotarians and the community,” said Richard Wilson, Secretary of the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100.

Hudson leaves behind his wife, four children, and nine grandchildren along with countless friends and family who deeply feel the loss of such an integral part of the Polokwane community.

His funeral will take place Saturday at 11:00 at the St Paul’s United Church in Haenertsburg.
