Accounting is Susan’s game

Susan Nailana achieved 100% in her accounting question paper

MOKOPANE – While sitting under a tree in the front-yard of Susan Nailana, 2016 matriculant at Hoërskool Piet Potgieter’ s home, I was convinced that this young lady has a bright future ahead of her especially after being awarded a trophy for the best accounting learner in Limpopo and achieving 100% in her accounting question paper during the final matric exam.

With a proud smile on the face of her father, Mesese and grandfather, they told Bosveld that they did not expect her to do so well and that she has put the family on the map.

“When I found out that my little girl is crowned as the best in Limpopo, I wanted to cry from happiness. I am so proud of her,” said her father.

Bosveld asked Susan the following questions:

• What is the reason for your great marks for accounting in the final exam and did you expect to get a 100%?

“I love it. I also studied hard, not that I found accounting that difficult. When you do something that is your passion it does not always come off difficult. I didn’t expect that good.”

• What part of accounting do you like the most?

“I love the figuring out of things. The mathematical part. The way it makes me use my brain.”

• What are your plans for this year?

“I plan to study accounting at the University of Pretoria. It will take me roughly seven years to finish the whole process but I am looking forward to university life. I am looking forward to learn more about the things I am passionate about.”

•Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

“By then I would like to be finished with all my studies and form partnership with one of the big four audit firms.”

•Who is your role model?

“My dad. He learned me alot about life and he is also an auditor. He might be part of the reason why I am so good in accounting.”

Susan further said that after receiving her matric certificate, her parents were over the moon. Her mother could not keep her tears inside. She also said that during the exams, the most difficult subject to write was physical science. Teacher Mathabata was her mentor during the year because she always gave her strength to overcome all the challenges and told her to keep optimistic throughout the year. “The thing I would miss the most about school is interhigh,” said Susan.

This is quite a remarkable student and Bosveld wishes her the best for her future.
