Thieves coin a cunning new scheme

Thieves are becoming more brazen and are now using a very sneaky and easy-to-miss method to break into your vehicle.

POLOKWANE – They place a coin or other object of similar size in door handles which keeps them from locking when the owner presses the “lock” button on their remotes. The owner will walk away believing their vehicle is locked, and then the thieves strike.
The theft usually takes place in the evening, once the vehicle owner has parked and “locked” their vehicle and retired for the night. Thieves then sneak into the vehicle and steal valuable possessions.
Police, along with other law enforcement authorities urge residents to check their vehicles regularly for anything that is out of place. They suggest checking all four doors to ensure they are all locked and warn residents not to leave any valuable possessions in their vehicles to avoid becoming the target of this crime.
