Sad truth about town cemetery

No more tears because of the deceased but rather because of the poor conditions at the Mokopane Main Cemetery.

MOKOPANE – The residents of Mokopane are not the only ones concerned about the conditions of the cemetery and says it is a sore eye for the city and great cause for concern knowing that this is what your final resting place looks like.

A woman from Pretoria called Bosveld’s offices to complain about the way this once well nurtured cemetery is turning into a jungle, voicing concerns about the lack of interest from the municipality about keeping the cemetery clean.

The grass is overgrown in between the graves, leaving the path obscured.

Bosveld investigated the complaints and visited the cemetery ourselves where we questioned one of the municipal workers about the state of the cemetery. “People complain about the state of the cemetery daily and we feel bad but it is not our fault.

“We cannot do our work and keep the cemetery tidy because we do not get the required equipment from the municipality,” the worker explained. He added that the ablution facilities at the cemetery are also in a state of disrepair because some of the pipes have been stolen. The gate to the cemetery is also broken and several visitors to the cemetery have complained about having their vehicles broken into in broad daylight while visiting departed loved ones.

No comment had been received by the Mogalakwena Municipality by the time of going to print.
