POLOKWANE – After a tumultuous academic year involving the torching of schools in the Vuwani District and a Gr 12 scandal, the Department of Education in the province will look to start the year off without a glitch as schools across the province are set to open this week.
The department has been hard at work to ensure learners receive books and stationery as soon as they sit down for their first class of 2017. They started delivering books to schools toward the end of the 2016 and continued with the process early this year to avoid delays.
MEC for Education, Ishmael Kgetjepe, emphasised that learning and teaching should start on the first day of school.Delivery for stationary is expected to be completed before the end of this week. Schools in the Vhembe and Capricorn Districts received stationery yesterday (Monday), while schools in Mopani are expected to receive stationery today.

Spokesperson for the Department, Dr Naledzani Rasila, says the deliveries have been made on time and they do not foresee any issues, except in cases where learners are transferred to other schools.
