Suspects crash hijacked vehicle during shoot-out

A hijacked vehicle was recovered, one suspect shot and injured,  after a shoot-out between suspects and the police yesterday evening (Friday) in the Northam area, says the police.

LIMPOPO – The hijacked vehicle, a Ford Bantam, was hijacked in the Northam area earlier this month.

According to information, the police received a tip-off about the existence of the said vehicle at Sefikile village in the Northwest province, adjacent to Northam policing precinct.

“On arrival, the police found the vehicle matching the description of the hijacked Ford bantam with three occupants parked at a tavern,” said Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

“The occupants allegedly started firing at the police and sped off. The police gave chase and returned fire, injuring one suspect in the leg. The remaining two suspects fled on foot after they crashed the vehicle into an electric pole,” he added.

The 24 year old injured suspect was taken to hospital and is under police guard. Non of our members was injured.

A 9mm pistol that was allegedly used during the shooting was also confiscated, said Mojapelo.

One of the suspects who fled from the scene is currently out on bail for a house robbery committed in Northam and is also wanted on another house robbery that was committed in November last year in Thabazimbi.
