‘Abducted’ girl (10) alerts community

The child was allegedly lured by the suspect to accompany him to buy her some sweets

LIMPOPO – A 40-year-old Zimbabwean national who allegedly abducted the 10-year-old girl from her home in Louis Trichardt on 24 December has been arrested.

The suspect from Mapani area (Musina) has since been charged with child stealing, according to Brigadier Motlafela Mopapelo

“The child who was allegedly lured by the suspect to accompany him to buy her some sweets managed to slip away from her alleged abducter yesterday (Sunday) at around 14:00 and alerted people in the village… they apprehended the man and called the police,” said Mojapelo.

“She was taken to hospital for medical attention and has since been released,” he added.

The motive for the incident is not known at this stage but all possibilities are being investigated.

Meanwhile on 13 December, an eight-year-old child went missing in Nebo whilst playing with friends and her partly decomposed tiny body was found in the nearby mountain.

We want to send a warning to all parents to take note that child neglect is a criminal offense which may result in the incarceration of the guilty persons. As parents we must at all times be vigilant and always have sight of where our children are playing.

We are also making an appeal to every one including neighbors to report incidents of child neglect to prevent this ugly trend, concluded Mojapelo.
