Festive season message from city’s mayor

This year has been quite hectic and highly paced for us in our endeavour to improve on the drive towards achieving our aspirations to realise a developing municipality whose operations run seamlessly.

The festive season presents to us a breeze of freshness to rejuvenate our energies for the new year, time to reconnect with our families and loved ones. Most of all it’s time for all of us to have fun and be inspired by the spirit of giving and sharing with those who are less fortunate and vulnerable.
It is my wish that this holiday season becomes a chance for all of us to find ways to bridge our differences and lift up those around us. Our hearts go out to all those who have lost their loved ones in 2016.
We take this opportunity to wish all the best to all Gr 12 learners with hope that those who are less fortunate have already applied through the Executive Mayor’s Bursary scheme and others so that they can study further.
Our parents are encouraged that as we spend money in the festive fanfare, we do so mindful of our children’s educational needs in the new year.
I honour and celebrate those members of the community in the police service, traffic control and the army who do all to protect us by ensuring that our city remains the safe place that it is. I also salute the medical personnel for their patriotic duty to save lives.
It is during this period that is characterised by extremely hot temperatures that we observe the scarcity of water and that its conservation becomes our second nature. So far we have managed to manage the distribution without major hiccups and we should continue to do so together.
Nothing beats being patient on the road, tolerance and sticking to the speed limits. Road safety is the responsibility of all on the roads. Please do not drink and drive. Our law enforcement officers will be dispatched throughout the municipality to ensure you arrive safely at your various destinations.
We must never forget to praise God the almighty for protecting us all in 2016. We must also pray that He delivers us into 2017 in good health and unharmed.
On behalf of Council of Polokwane Municipality, I take this opportunity to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a healthy, prosperous 2017.

Polokwane Mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng
