Two dead, several injured after taxi overturns on R40

Police appeal to anyone who can assist in the identification of the deceased, to go to the Hoedspruit Police Station.

LIMPOPO –  The Police in Hoedspruit outside Phalaborwa are investigating a case of culpable homicide incident which occurred along the R40 next to Tshukudu Lodge earlier today (Saturday).

Two people died and several were injured after driver of a taxi lost control when the back tyre  burst causing it to roll several times, according to Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“It is alleged that the taxi was transporting people from Accornhoek to Phalaborwa,” said Ngoepe.

Ngoepe confirmed that one passenger was killed instantly and the second person was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Several passengers sustained serious injuries and were admitted at the Maphutha Malatjie Hospital he said.

The two deceased, a woman and a man, are still unknown and police appeal to anyone who can assist in their identification, to go to the Hoedspruit Police Station.

Police investigations are still continuing, he concluded.
