Premier’s festive message to Limpopo residents

This festive season, like all other seasons, we are calling for zero-tolerance on road transgressions.

I, Chupu Mathabatha, Premier of Limpopo Province wish to call upon all South Africans and others, especially those who will be travelling in and outside Limpopo, those who will be passing through our province going into other countries like Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambique to exercise great caution as they travel.

This festive season, like all other seasons, we are calling for zero-tolerance on road transgressions.

We have instructed our traffic police throughout the province to arrest anyone found drunk or driving recklessly on our roads.

We have called on them not to even give spot fines, but to immediately arrest.

We cannot afford one more death, and even one death is just one too many.

Christmas is a time for reflection, a time where families meet and discuss the future, a time of enjoying.

Let it be just like that.

Let it not be a time to score and stir feuds.

Let us all protect our vulnerable members, especially our women and children.

We call upon our communities to work closely with the police and law enforcement agencies.

Criminals will not have a chance if all of us are aware and alert the police at all times. Let’s be vigilant to the core.

Lastly, I wish to congratulate all those that worked tirelessly to make our province a better place.

From the sporting fields of stars like Caster Semenya, Hlompho Kekana and many others. From civil servants who dedicated their lives to make life better for the poor.

To unsung heroes like journalists who report on developmental issues so that all of us can be informed.

May you have all God’s travelling mercies, enjoy the festive season with your family and friends, and return alive for another glorious year.

Merry Christmas and a happy new 2017 season!
