Makina allows his creativity to flow on paper

Forty-one-year old James Makina from Zimbabwe is no stranger to literature.

POLOKWANE – The security manager has been writing books since 2014 and has managed thus far to release four of the five books.

His latest book is titled Banister At Arm’s Length, and will be released as soon as he can find funding to publish the book.

“My grandmother, who is from Zambia, was into arts and she is the one who sparked my interest in literature. She was a popular figure who also loved poetry so I think I got my love for arts from her.”

His first-ever book was a political novel titled African Dream but he has since been writing poetry which is his first love.

“I always find myself gravitating towards poetry. I am inspired by everyday life events and I also look to people for my inspiration. As soon as I start writing, the words just flow,” he continued.

Banister at Arm’s Length boasts 400 poems that were all written by Makina.

He says the poems all fall under certain themes, there are those that deal with sadness, happiness and everything else in between. Makina says his intention with writing this book was to touch the lives of others the best way he knows how, through poetry.

“The book is for people of all ages, man, woman or child can read the book with ease and take something away from it,” he explained.

His only hurdle at the moment is finding the funds to publish the book and he says seeing his book published and on the shelves would be a dream come true. Should anyone wish to assist Makina in this regard, contact him at 071 986 6749.
