‘Sad day for sport in Lim’ – MEC

A head-on collision between two vehicles outside Mookgophong on Saturday claimed the life of, among others, the Chairperson of the Mopani District’s Gymnastics division.

LIMPOPO – Maggy Sekhula-Sebola and her husband were among those declared dead at the scene of a collision between a sedan and a luxury vehicle.
The MEC for Sport, Onicca Moloi, said through a press release that the department was shocked to learn of Sekhula-Sebola’s passing.
The deceased was also the district’s national technical member for gymnastics.
“I’m deeply saddened by her death. This is a sad day for the entire sporting fraternity in our province.
“We’ve lost a visionary, a true soldier who died with her boots on, heading to the battlefield to promote sport. Her untimely death comes at a time when as the province, we’re working towards re-positioning sport,” she said.
“She was set to play a pivotal role in our endeavours to produce more athletes, particularly in sporting codes which previously disadvantaged people are not well represented in, to represent our province and country on the international stages. Our thoughts are with the Sekhula-Sebola family in this dark hour. We pray to God to give them strength and solace.”
Moloi said Sekhula-Sebola left “an indelible mark that will be forever etched in the minds of the sporting fraternity”. Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said a case of culpable homicide had been opened. He also confirmed that two of the six deceased have not yet been identified.
Information about Sekhula-Sebola’s burial was not available at the time of going to press.
