Educational Campaign for Dep. of Health

Limpopo's Department of Health says it will embark on an education campaign with the public following local pastors making national headlines.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Health says it is going to embark on an educational campaign to educate the public on the dangers of ingesting certain cleaning materials for religious practices.

This follows a picture emerging last week of Prophet Rufus Phala from the AK Spiritual Christian Church, outside Moletjie, who told his congregation to drink Dettol for the healing of sicknesses.

“As the department, we feel it is necessary to educate the public about the dangers of using these products and how it could seriously affect their health,” says Derick Kganyago, Spokesperson for the Department of Health. He says people need to be informed, especially because they go to these churches willingly.

This is the second pastor in the space of several weeks who has made use of cleaning material on members of his church. In November, pictures of Prophet Lethebo Rabalago emerged showing him spraying Doom on his congregants during a church service in Mookgophong as a form of anointment to “heal and deliver” them from their struggles.

“The MEC condemns this behavior and as a department, we are concerned about these prophets and what they are making congregants do,” says Kganyago.
