‘Come and experience our Christmas wonderland’

The Polokwane Child and Family Care Society's annual Christmas lights are on display once again as from 1 December.

POLOKWANE – This is the sixth year the society is hosting this display of colourful and twinkling Christmas lights, says Lorette Bosch who is the office head and social worker.

Bosch encourages the public to come and support this display which is an awareness campaign as well as to raise money to cover the society’s overhead costs.

She says there are still people in this city who are not aware of the society and the work they do. She says the Christmas lights display is first and foremost to make the public aware of them, and by visiting the festive lights display at Christmas, people can see for themselves what the purpose of the society is.

Entrance fee for children is R5 and R10 for adults. Bosch says the fees will be used for the society’s overhead costs as it is a non-profitable organisation.

“For us here at Polokwane Child and Family Care Society, it is this not about the money, but rather to get as much scope as possible by making people aware of us. We would like to encourage people, couples and families to come and experience our Christmas lights display,” says Bosch.

She says since the display was first initiated six years ago, it has grown in stature. Most of the lights used are low voltage lights which use very little power.

There are also garden chairs and tables set on the lawn where people can settle down for a cup of coffee or tea, and a photo corner has been created for those who would like to take photos and selfies.

The Polokwane Child and Family Care Society’s Christmas lights display can be visited in the evenings right up to Christmas from 19:00 until 21:00. The address for the venue is 42A Jorissen Street.
