Six people dead in N1 head-on collision

LIMPOPO – The Police in Mookgopong outside Modimolle are investigating a case of culpable homicide after six people were killed and 2 injured in a head-on accident on the N1 South earlier today (Saturday).

According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Moateshe Ngoepe, The accident happened at around 09:45 on the N1 South about 8km from Mookgophong.

“It is alleged that a bus which lost control due to mechanical fault was moving in a zig-zag manner in the middle of the road. The two cars tried to avoid colliding with thee bus but unfortunately collided head on with each other killing six  people instantly and injuring two,” said Moatshe.

He added; “The cars were Mercedez Benz sedan and a Polo VW sedan.”

“Of the five occupants travelling in the Mercedes Benz three died instantly and two were injured. All the deceased believed to be aged in their 40s are not yet identified. The two injured occupants were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.”

“All three occupants travelling in the VW sedan died on the scene. The deceased aged 45 ,45 and 61-years-old have been identified and their names will be published after the next of kin are informed.”

Moatshe added; “The police appeal to anyone who can assist in the identification of the unidentified deceased to go to Mookgkopong Police Station and ask for Captain Mape Modiba or contact him on 082 443 8911.

Police investigations are continuing.

LIMPOPO – According to reports two people sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.  Six people were declared dead on the scene, five of the deceased are still trapped.

The clean up process continues and motorists are urged to be patient.
