GOLD agents of change

GOLD Peer Education is a dynamic non-profit organisation playing a key role in the transformation of lives and communities through the roll out of a long-term youth Peer Education Model.

MOKOPANE – “You are precious, you are gold. Shaping up into that mould, you’re on the lane of leadership, where a leader’s will has never withered, strong, steady, smart and filtered, you’ve heard this, you have been told. You are precious and you are gold.”

This is an extract from Filicia Isaac, a Gr 11 learner of Hoërskool Piet Potgieter’s, poem ‘Gold’ which she presented last Friday during the Generation of Leaders Discovered (GOLD) graduation ceremony.

GOLD Peer Education is a dynamic non-profit organisation playing a key role in the transformation of lives and communities through the roll out of a long-term youth Peer Education Model. Their mission is to unlock the full potential of the youth, impart hope, vision and purpose in our future leaders and equip them with skills to develop themselves. To empower the youth peer leaders to become positive role models and agents of change.

A total of 11 learners from HPP graduated from the GOLD project. In Gr 9 their class was invited to form part of the GOLD initiative and these 11 learners chose to take part in this three-year journey where they learned and lived out the peer educator roles: Role Modelling, Educating, Community upliftment & Recognising and Referring.”

Basetsana Ledwaba, Dyondzo Kubayi, Ellah Maepa, Filicia Isaac, Habeeba Mustapha, Jennita Ngundu, Kabelo Molokomme, Kabelo Sebothoma, Kgotso Magongwa, Khutso Rangongo and Tullip Maphoto all boast with an endorsement letter from GOLD Agency, a testimonial from their lead facilitator, a GOLD certificate and a Groper profile test. Tullip also took home the prize for Heart of the Community, (most community projects done), Kabelo was awarded with the prize, Most peers educated, (reached most peers) and Basetsana took the award Most Dedicated.

The learners all thanked their facilitators and said that GOLD has shaped them into agents of change. Programme Manager at Gold, Imogen van Wyk said: “The GOLD team are extremely proud of these learners and excited to see the harvest that will come forth from the seed that has been sown into their lives. We also want to thank Pastor Thomas and Minda Marshall for being the heart of our community and making it possible for us to implement this programme.”
