Former secretary convicted on 176 counts of theft

A 54-year-old woman found guilty of 176 counts of theft was sentenced to eleven years imprisonment by the Polokwane Magistrate's Court On Tuesday.

POLOKWANE – According to a statement issued by Hawks Spokesperson, Cap Matimba Maluleke, the accused, Christene Erna Capazario, a former secretary at a local psychiatric practice who was responsible for making payments to the beneficiaries, unlawfully and fraudulently changed the bank account details of 176 beneficiaries to her own account details.

“An amount of R752 262.12 that was meant for the beneficiaries was paid into her bank account after processing the claims,” said Maluleke.

Capazario from Mahwelereng was arrested after an intensive and thorough investigation, he added.

“We believe that this sentence will serve as a deterrent to all fraudsters and thieves out there that their time is coming as we will leave no stone unturned in search of them.”
