Thohoyandou man sentenced to 3x life imprisonment for rape of nephew

The accused repeatedly raped the boy on the 22, 23 and 28 August 2015, says the police

LIMPOPO – The Thohoyanou Magistrate’s Court sentenced a 54-year-old man to three life imprisonment for the repeated rape of his nephew yesterday (Tuesday), say the police.

According to a statement issued by Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the eight-year-old boy was staying with his uncle and family in the same house in a village outside Thohoyandou throughout the ordeal.

“The accused repeatedly raped the boy on the 22, 23 and 28 August 2015 during the day while his wife and other family members were not at home until he was found out, said Ngoepe.

Meanwhile in Maake outside Tzaneen, Evens Mashele (26) from Khopo Village, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for rape without the option of  fine by the Lenyenye Regional Court outside Tzaneen yesterday (Tuesday).

Mashele was found guilty for the rape of his ex-girlfriend on 9 June added Ngoepe.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba welcomed these sentences especially as we are still at the begining of the 16 DAYS Of Activism On No Violence Against Women and Children. These sentences will send a strong message to all perpetrators of these crimes that crime does not pay.

The General reiterated his appreciation to the Police Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit(FCS) for  outstanding performance in the fight against sexual related offences.

He encouraged them to keep on keeping on until all rapists and abusers are taken to jail.
