Campus manager accused of assault

According to reports, the campus manager grabbed the student during a meeting and SRC members had to step in

POLOKWANE – Charges of assault have been laid against a local campus manager employed by a college in Seshego after he allegedly grabbed the Student Representative Council (SRC) secretary by the throat during a meeting.

The DA in Limpopo says Higher Education and Training Minister, Blade Nzimande should suspend the campus manager as a matter of urgency. DA Provincial Spokesperson, Solly Malatsi says they will write to Nzimande to suspend the manager immediately as they believe his conduct is inappropriate for someone who works with students.

According to information, a scuffle ensued between the man and the SRC secretary, a student and leader of the DA’s student wing on campus.

Since initial charges were made, as well as counter charges, Review is withholding the names of the parties until both have pleaded in court.

The DA laid charges at the Seshego Police Station.

Malatsi said the man assaulted the student for his persistent questioning of a decision to have students vacate the campus with immediate effect.

“This is despite the fact that students only finished final year exams and the campus is scheduled to officially close on 9 December. Daso would like to applaud the SAPS for their quick response on the matter by arresting Letsoalo,” said Malatsi.

According to the college’s communications department, the man made counter charges of intimidation against the student.

An internal investigation is underway.
