The Association for Persons with Disability (APD) celebrated Disability Rights Awareness Month with fun and games at the Trix Nortman Protective Workshop and Day Care Centre on Thursday.
The residents and day visitors were divided into groups to participate in activities such as target shooting, bowling, ring toss and jukskei. The games will end on 30 November and the winners of each category will compete against one another to determine the top winner.
South Africa commemorates National Disability Rights Awareness Month annually between 3 November and 3 December.
According to Johnny Graham, Public Education and Awareness/Fundraiser and organiser of the games, Disability Rights Awareness Month provides the community with an opportunity to inspire hope and confidence in the ability of South Africans and to reach out to the diversity within the disability sector.
“The residents and day visitors were excited to participate in the games and enjoyed every moment,” Graham stated.
