Limpopo dam levels still dropping

Dam levels are still dropping despite the recent widespread thunderstorms throughout the province.

Despite rain falling across the country this week, there is still uncertainty over whether the summer rainfall will be enough to offset the effects of the drought as the country might take a few years to recover fully, according to the South African Weather Service.

“The municipality advises the public to limit usage of water to domestic and human consumption only,” said  Polokwane Municipality Spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo in an earlier statement.

“With the help of community services, people who are caught watering their gardens or washing their cars with water running, who don’t have boreholes, will be issued with an on the spot fine. These fines are then taken to the municipality’e revenue system and will be added to resident’s bills.:

“These spot fines are not to punish residents but rather, to encourage them to adhere to the restricitions and for them to use water sparingly,” Mothapo explains.

Water related issues can be reported to the municipality by using the following numbers: 0152902376/2000/2001/2002/2457
