Man (58) hijacked, killed

Four people were arrested for hijacking, kidnapping and murder following the gruesome discovery made by police on Monday 21 November.

POLOKWANE – The body of a 58-year-old man from Gauteng who was presumed to have been hijacked outside Mokopane on Sunday was found in his vehicle near a lodge outside the city says Police Spokesperson, Capt Ntobeng Phalala.

The suspects, two women and two men, then drove around with the man in the back of his car. Phala said the police were informed by residents that the sedan was driving recklessly in and around the city and local villages and, upon investigation, it was found that the car had been reported stolen and the owner missing.

“We followed up on leads provided by residents who reported that a suspicious-looking vehicle was parked near a lodge on the Louis Trichardt road just outside the city,” Phala said.

He said that upon investigation the body of a man was found on the back seat of the vehicle. He had been shot. Phala added that further investigation then led the police to the lodge where four suspects, two women, aged 25 and 19 with two men, aged 24 and 30 were arrested.

Phala said that the suspects will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court. They will face charges of kidnapping, hijacking and murder.

The name of the deceased could not be released as the next of kin has not been notified.
